Chadstract’s art incorporates the use of grids to illustrate contrasting color schemes. The effect is a type of optical illusion where you can “train” the eyes to only see the warm-colored sections of the grid, or conversely, the cool-colored sections. This would be similar to viewing the piece through the aperture of a stained-glass window or other transparency.

     Much of his art is musically inspired, from fantastical horn drawings, or influential musicians such as: Kurt Cobain and Neil Peart. Music has played an important role in Chadstract’s life as he is a musician in his own right and hails from a family of players.

 

     “There is a lot in common between music, art, and writing. Aside from the obvious ‘right-brained’ activity, there is a certain rhythm with drumming and writing, or similar patterns with musical notes and colors. It’s a beautiful way to see the world…”

    

     Another characteristic of Chadstract’s artistic style is his use of abstract coloring. This is a technique of substituting the conventional colors in a subject and following a consistent alternative coloring scheme. This gives the viewer a different, but accessible way of looking at recognizable objects.

     As far as future projects, Chadstract is continuing to evolve his style by experimenting with different grid patterns and subject material:

    

     "I want to challenge myself to create art that is inspired by some of the creatures and places I see in my imagination. To be able to bring these concepts and ideas into the real world and share them with others; that’s the real excitement for me.”
